Pathfinder DST

Hey, I've been trying to make a DST for Pathfinder RPG (I've got a number
of reasons why but primarily the limited handling of spells and inventory)
but I've run into a problem. It seems the devkit is very out of date,
particularly when dealing with select elements. I put a few selects into
the sheet to make things like alignment and size easier for new players and
wrote a bunch of javascript to make them work well. Unfortunately, your
javascript also messes with selectors and I haven't been able to figure out
how to create the elements correctly to work with your javascript. It
doesn't seem to work like the checkboxes do. Also, I can't put in just a
plain disabled checkbox. Your javascript messes with that as well.

Are select elements even possible or should I just ignore them?

I'm also thinking of making a very simplified sheet that GMs could use for
NPCs. It would contain the minimal information you would need to use them
in combat and roll checks against and then much more character type
information and background fields. Would you mind if I did that? I'm not
sure what your purpose was for DSTs and if that's outside what you
intended, I'll just leave it. But something like that would be useful for
me.

Hi, thanks for contacting Obsidian Portal. I apologize for the delay.

I am going to run this by our dev team, I'll need to get their input on it.. to be completely honest I'm not sure if the NPC sheet is something we were looking at or not. I'll let you know. Sorry again for the delay.

    Micah,

See above -- wackozacko has some questions regarding the DST devkit and a question about making DSTs for NPCs. I was unfortunately not sure how to answer either of those.

Wow, I'd given up expecting a response.

If you need more information, I can give more specific details at some
point next week. I'm in the process of moving and don't have regular access
to my development machine. I'd really like to see some good character
sheets on Obsidian Portal, considering the rest of the site looks and works
great. If I can get good PC and NPC sheets on the site, it'd be much more
useful to me as a GM.

If you gave up after a couple of weeks, I'm guessing a couple of years really did you in, but in case you're still around, I can answer at least half of this - you're more than welcome to create NPC oriented character sheets.

The technical side is a good question too, but will require some additional research to figure out. There is almost certainly a way to make this work, but it will be more involved, since the DST system wasn't ever really designed to work with form elements in general. Thanks for surfacing the issue.

Hahaha! This is awesome! I guess when you guys put something in your TODO
list, you'll get to it eventually no matter how long it takes.

So, I've actually moved countries about a year ago and am no longer part of
the group I was playing with, so have no real motivation to look at this
again. On the other hand, I've had two more years of programming experience
in the online industry and may take a look at it just for the fun of seeing
what I programmed like a couple years back. I really did like the Obsidian
platform when I was messing around with it.

Anyway, thanks for getting back to me. I'll let you know if I take a look
and any problems I may run into.

    Sincerely
    Isaac

After a bit of research on the second issue here - using drop downs in a DST - it's clear that there's no native support for them at all, even setting aside the automatic conversion process performed by the site's other scripts. With that being the case, it would take some more extensive scripting to make them work.

Entirely possible, but not at all straight forward unfortunately.

As we make improvements to the system, I'll try to see if there are things we can do to natively support this in the future, but I can't make any guarantees about feasibility, let alone time lines.
